FANUC AC Spindle Motor Model and Type Numbers
1.55 | 2 | 2S | 3 | 3S |
6 | 6S | 8 | 8H | 8S |
12 | 12S | 15 | 18S | 22 |
22S | 30 | 40P | 40S | a |
aP | aC | ai | ail | βil |
In many cases – though not all – the above model will be followed by another number or letter, a slash and another larger number, as in this example:
Model Number Example:
α12/7000
α12/7000
The ‘Alpha’ beginning the model number represents the series. The ‘12’ refers to the motor’s output in kW, though the values in the model number are generally rounded up. The ‘slash’ followed by ‘7000’ denotes the motor’s maximum speed in RPM.
Clearly, this modelling system does not reveal all the pertinent information about a FANUC AC spindle motor. For example, the torque and speed can be achieved by various stator sizes, etc. and feedback devices and shaft dimensions are not covered by it.
For more information, we have to turn to the type number:
Type Number Example:
A06B-1408-B200
A06B-1408-B200
For all FANUC AC spindle motors, the type number will begin with ‘A06B’. The second set of characters refers to the electrical specifications and dimensions of the motor and the information coded here is most closely tied to information in the model number. However, simply increasing the ‘1408’ to, say, ‘1409’ does not necessarily have a similar effect on which model is equivalent.
The last set of characters signify shaft dimensions, feedback options, and brake specifications among other available accessories. Interestingly, the number used to represent a tapered shaft, for example, can change based on the numbers present in the middle section of the type number. This is because not all series of FANUC AC spindle motors have the same options offered. This means the meaning of the final four characters remain consistent for only small groups of FANUC AC spindle motors.
Replacement FANUC AC Spindle Motors
If you are in the market for a replacement FANUC AC spindle motor or are wondering if you should attempt any sort of maintenance on a FANUC AC spindle motor, Servo Repair International, Inc. recommends that you contact us first to discuss your motor. If you rely only on the model number and try to buy a FANUC AC spindle motor off of an auction website, you could very easily buy the wrong motor. If you do not know that your motor has a feedback device that requires electrical alignment and you attempt to perform maintenance you risk the proper functionality of that motor, possibly permanently.
